One of Sydney's beloved yum cha restaurants, The Eight in Haymarket, has been temporarily closed after numerous diners reported symptoms of food poisoning following a Chinese New Year Eve banquet. At least 11 tables experienced vomiting, severe gastrointestinal distress, and fever after dining at the restaurant on January 28. Authorities have issued a Prohibition Order to the restaurant, pending the results of investigations into the cause of the illness.

One of Sydney ’s most popular yum cha restaurants has been temporarily closed after dozens of diners reported food poisoning symptoms following a Chinese New Year Eve banquet. At least 11 tables of diners experienced symptoms such as vomiting, severe gastro, and fever after dining at The Eight in Sydney ’s Haymarket on January 28, according to a social media post.

After dining at The Eight with her group, she had to rush her nine-month-old baby to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead after he began vomiting and experiencing repeated diarrhoea. “He still has a fever as of Monday afternoon,” she said, still reeling from the aftermath of the event. The rest of the group, including seven adults, also suffered similar symptoms.
