The Greens leader has renewed his calls for Labor to abandon the stage three tax cuts as he took a swipe at the government by declaring 'poverty is a political choice'.

The minor party is opposed to stage three tax cuts - legislated when the Coalition were in power - that are due to come into effect in 2024/25 and cost $243 billion over a decade, arguing they"turbocharge economic and gender inequality".

We've been really clear that at the moment, in the October budget, this is not something that we're going to proceed with," Ms Rishworth told RN Breakfast.

The Australian Council of Social Service says the JobSeeker payment needs to be increased to $70 a day to ensure recipients are living above the poverty line.
