Premier offers commuters week of fare-free travel in bid to stop union | Mattonews & Rabe9

NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet has moved to head off major industrial action set to cripple Sydney’s rail network by offering commuters fare-free travel next week.

“I want this situation fixed – I’ve made that very clear,” he said. “This has gone on for way too long. Providing free travel for the week will ensure that that industrial action does not occur.” “As I’ve said, if there is any industrial action on the network, we are not modifying the [new intercity fleet]. But following those constructive discussions that we had yesterday, I’m hoping that there’s a resolution and I want there to be a resolution within a week and let’s get it done,” he said.
