US President Joe Biden has verbally stumbled once again, calling Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy “Putin” during a press conference at the NATO summit. The gaffe comes shortly before the 81-year-old is expected to make a major announcement on his candidacy in this year’s presidential election campaign. Biden has been under fire from senior Democrats, calling him to drop out of the race. Thursday’s event was to mark the Ukraine Compact, a bilateral agreement unifying support of Ukraine.

As people started to applaud, Biden repeated “President Putin,” and then said “he’s going to beat president Putin — President Zelensky!” “I’m so focused on beating Putin … we gotta worry about it … anyway.” Mr Zelensky quipped, “I’m better.” “You are a hell of a lot better,” Mr Biden agreed. Russian President Vladimir Putin has invaded Ukraine, in a war that has lasted two years. Biden quickly corrected himself following the problematic mistake.
