With game practice scarce, the Papua New Guinea Women's National Football team are playing against men and training their hearts out. But can the five-time gold medallists of the Pacific Games make it to the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup? The pressure is on.
The Papua New Guinea Women's National Football team is out to make their nation's dreams come true — and they might just do it.
"It would mean the world to us if we qualify for the World Cup," team captain Yvonne Gabong said. "The whole reason we are playing is to qualify." However, it was the PNG women who thrived and proved to be successful in the Pacific, with an improved FIFA ranking while the PNG men are ranked 162.
