Parts of the Princes Highway near Nowra have been closed and fires are threatening other arterial roads, with holidaymakers being advised to 'revisit their plans' to travel to NSW's South Coast.
Several roads, including parts of the Great Western Highway and Kings Highway were also closed near Lithgow, Mount Victoria and Blackheath on Monday due to bushfires and backburning operations.
"Firefighters are doing massive work this week while they have the opportunity to get some containment in place before things heat up again this weekend," Ms Burford said.Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Abrar Shabren said cooler temperatures and cloudy conditions expected to remain throughout the week will "see a bit of a reprieve on firegrounds" but said there isn't any significant rainfall on the horizon.
"Dry thunderstorms and lightning can have impacts on firegrounds. As we go into the weekend and the early stages of next week, we're also seeing the possibility of increasing temperatures."Mr Shabren also said Sydney will experience hazy conditions without any thick smoke throughout the week.More than 830 homes and 62 facilities have been destroyed in NSW so far this fire season.
