Princess Anne makes history as first woman to 'stand guard' for Vigil of the Princes
King Charles III has taken his place by his mother Queen Elizabeth II's coffin at St Giles' Cathedral for the Vigil of the Princes.
She was seen in uniform while keeping completely silent, much like her brothers, with her head bowed by her mother's coffin. While Anne kept her eyes glued to the ground, her brother Andrew closed his eyes and kept his hands clasped together during the sombre 20-minutes they stood together. Andrew, on the other hand, wore a suit for ceremony despite being a military veteran. This is because he was banned from wearing uniform on public occasions after he was stripped of his titles following the Virginia Roberts sex scandal.Hundreds of people are still queueing up to see the Queen’s coffin inside St Giles’ Cathedral. The queue stretches all the way down George IV Bridge and bends round onto Chambers Street.
