A pro-Russian paramilitary leader from eastern Ukraine was killed in a bomb explosion at a luxury apartment block in Moscow , according to Russian media. Armen Sarkisyan, originally from eastern Ukraine, died when the explosive detonated in the lobby of 'Scarlet Sails', a complex on the banks of the Moskva River just 12 kilometers from the Kremlin. TASS, a state news agency, reported that the bombing was a well-planned assassination. Mr.
Sarkisyan was known to be the founder of a volunteer battalion fighting in Ukraine and the head of a boxing federation in the Russian-controlled part of Ukraine's Donetsk region. \A law enforcement official, citing TASS, stated that investigators believe the assassination attempt was carefully planned and ordered. They are currently working to identify those responsible for the crime. Baza, a Telegram channel with connections to Russia's security services, also published video footage showing significant damage to the building's lobby. \Ukraine's SBU security service previously described Mr. Sarkisyan as a crime boss in the Donetsk region, which has been under Moscow's control since 2014. They alleged that he was officially suspected of participating in and aiding 'illegal armed groups.' The SBU stated that Mr Sarkisyan had formed a pro-Russian military unit composed of local convict fighters and had organized the procurement of supplies for frontline units. Mediazona, an independent Russian outlet focusing on law enforcement, reported that the Armenian-born Mr. Sarkisyan had been a prominent figure in organized crime in the Donetsk region city of Horlivka. In 2022, Mediazona claimed he founded a pro-Russian paramilitary unit primarily consisting of his fellow ethnic Armenians to combat Ukrainian forces. There has been no official comment from Ukraine regarding this latest explosion.
