Consulting company managing director says “greywashing” is as much of a risk to sustainability progress as greenwashing.

Publicis Group is bringing its United Kingdom-based sustainability consultancy Salterbaxter to Australian clients to take on the big four consultancies in the rapidly growing field, as pressure builds on companies to put their net zero plans into action.

“We are a sustainability consultancy and in terms of our peer set we often come up against the big four consultancies, but we are aiming to do consultancy very differently,” she said. “We were very fortunate in the Publicis Group to have a firm... that has 25 years of experience advising clients on how to take the sustainability promises and actually turn that into real tangible progress,” he said.

Ms Enright said Australia is not necessarily behind the rest of the world when it comes to sustainability despite the late setting of emissions targets. “What we are seeing is clients really panicked at having to stay ahead of legislation. We’re seeing businesses committing to things, but to turn that into a competitive advantage often means going beyond just what everyone is committing to, so it’s a very complicated picture. And I think a lot of the work we do is helping clients navigate that and stay ahead of that,” Ms Enright said.
