Former PwC Australia CEO Tom Seymour says that there were up to five international tax partners that had to be asked to leave the firm. “If I go back, a large amount of our problems emulated – so if we had 200 tax partners roughly … there might have been 15 international tax partners, the vast majority of these issues emulated from international tax practice and within that 15.

“What I would say on the MAAL structure is that, that MAAL structure which was put in place was put in place for two clients out of a very large group of clients,” said Seymour. “It was identified within the risk team within the firm as being a structure, notwithstanding legally worked and was a correct piece of legal advice, if you want to use that terminology.
