Queensland Chief Health Officer John Gerrard warned more Omicron cases will be found after at least one person infected with the strain was infectious in the community. The state recorded 22 infections in the past 24 hours.
Health Minister Yvette D'Ath said she was expecting more Omicron cases to be detected as mobility increases.
She said 18 of the cases had been infectious in the community while two were detected in home isolation and the other two in overseas hotel quarantine. One person who was infectious visited an aged care facility in Holland Park. Testing is underway on staff and residents. Residents have been recommended to carry and wear their mask in settings where they cannot social distance, in high-risk setting and public transport.
Chief Health Officer Doctor John Gerrard accepted predictions cases will surge and deaths will come in a number of weeks as families from hotspots reunite in Queensland for Christmas.
