More than 30 people have been turned away at the Queensland-NSW border since midday on Tuesday as the majority arrived from NSW coronavirus hotspots.
Five people who arrived on a flight from Sydney were also refused entry at the Coolangatta airport after Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced tougher border restrictions with NSW.
Under the new measures, Qld residents who visited either Liverpool or Campbelltown in the past 14 days would be forced to enter a 14-day quarantine period upon arrival in an effort to prevent the spread of a virus cluster from the Crossroads Hotel in Sydney’s south-west. The Gold Coast mayor urged Ms Palaszczuk to consider moving the border crossing south to Tweed Heads following complaints of lengthy delays from travellers trying to enter the state.
