A palace spokesman said the 96-year-old monarch had decided “with great reluctance” that she could no longer make the journey from her home at Windsor Castle.
The Queen has withdrawn from the St Paul’s Cathedral Service of Thanksgiving – a centrepiece of her Platinum Jubilee celebrations – after citing discomfort following her brief appearance on the Buckingham Palace balcony on Thursday.
A spokesman said: “The Queen greatly enjoyed today’s Birthday Parade and Flypast but did experience some discomfort. Just weeks ago there was doubt she would be able to take part at all after she cancelled a string of traditional appearances,, over what the palace described as “episodic mobility issues”.
On Saturday royal family members – but not the Queen – will attend the Epsom Derby horse race. It is expected she will spend time with Lilibet, the newest daughter of Harry and Meghan, who had not travelled to Britain with her parents since they quit their duties and moved to the United States two years ago.Earlier, the palace announced Prince Andrew had tested positive for coronavirus and would also not attend the Queen’s Jubilee thanksgiving service on Friday.
