The AFL has been forced to postpone three Round 20 matches scheduled to be played in Queensland this weekend due to the snap lockdown in Brisbane and south east Queensland.
The AFL is working through the situation to determine when those matches might be played, with a chance the Giants’ clash with Port Adelaide could be held on Sunday in another state.
Sources indicated Gold Coast players were told to pack on Saturday morning to leave the region immediately. “I’ve got a pretty strong expectation that I’ll need to make changes for the permit zones in south-east Queensland,” he told reporters on Saturday.“It’s concerning to have any COVID cases that you have to chase down when you’ve got settings that allow for transmission to occur pretty readily, but Queensland’s acted entirely in line with the national cabinet strategy.”
Meanwhile, three NRL matches were scheduled today: Dragons versus Rabbitohs at Rockhampton at 3pm; Knights against Raiders at Brisbane’s at 5.30pm at Suncorp Stadium; followed by the grand final rematch between the Panthers and Storm at the same venue at 7.35pm. There’s also a huge cloud hovering over Super Netball, with the whole competition based in Queensland and three games scheduled across Monday and Tuesday.
She was tested after becoming unwell on Thursday and was deemed to have been infectious in the community since Tuesday, having attended the school for two days.
