The unofficial election campaign was in full swing this week as government and opposition MPs traded barbs aimed at scoring political points under the protection of parliamentary privilege, writes Matt Eaton.

Officially, the election campaign begins on October 1 when the government enters caretaker mode.A conga line of government MPs took turns at condemning Opposition Leader David Crisafulli over allegations he headed up a company that was trading while insolvent.

With the Queensland election nearing, youth crime — and how to tackle it — is front of mind for many voters. The LNP is committing itself to lowering victim of crime numbers, knowing the topic is front of mind with many Queensland voters.Labor spent much of its time this week playing the man, questioning the opposition leader's integrity and ability to govern.David Crisafulli paid $200,000 in settling claims from liquidators who alleged a training company he was a director of may have been trading while insolvent.

Deputy Opposition Leader Jarrod Bleijie brought that matter to parliament's attention in 2022, saying the CCC investigation related to Ms Trad's role in the recruitment of former under treasurer Frankie Carroll. At a budget estimates hearing last month, CCC chair Bruce Barbour called Justice Holmes's proposed reporting model "very troubling".It is recommended that elected officials may be the subject of a public report even if corruption allegations are not proven, if the report is purely factual and in the public interest.

The government is looking to table its own bill to unmuzzle the CCC, but hasn't committed to doing so in the current term of government."The only reason the Labor party don't want this bill passed before tonight is because they want to hide the Jackie Trad report before the election. It is not known whether the CCC's report makes any findings against Ms Trad.
