Deputy Premier Steven Miles has announced 11 Queensland LGAs will be plunged into a snap lockdown from Saturday afternoon with residents subject to the toughest restrictions seen in the state.

Attending essential work, schooling and childcare is also a valid reason to leave home, with face masks now mandatory for all staff and students in high schools. Non-essential businesses will not be permitted to open while pubs, clubs and cafes will be restricted to take-away only. Anyone who has been in any of the 11 LGAs since 1am on Saturday morning will be subject to the lockdown restrictions"no matter where you are now".
