Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk again held firm on interstate travellers needing PCR tests to enter Queensland, but said there would be further discussion about the requirement and how rapid antigen tests could work in January.

Queensland has recorded 369 cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, as authorities warned of an escalation in numbers, as in NSW and Victoria.

Ms Palaszczuk again held firm on interstate travellers needing a PCR test to enter Queensland, but added that after the national cabinet meeting on Wednesday, there would be further discussions on the requirement. “People are travelling from Queensland to Tasmania, they require a PCR test. People from here going to South Australia need a PCR test. People travelling everywhere else need a PCR test.

But he said there was just one person in the intensive care unit, and that person was not on a ventilator.“A lot of [the 93 people in hospital] have to do with isolation and quarantine as we’ll be learning more in the coming days about what we’re doing to get these people out of hospital somewhere where they don’t need to occupy a hospital bed,” he said.
