Health Minister Yvette D’Ath said the virus had now spread everywhere and was expecting a spike in numbers to continue.

There are 2147 active cases in the state, including 151 of those were confirmed to be the Omicron variant.

Queensland has 90.4 per cent of the population who have received the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccination while 85.9 per cent are fully vaccinated.Once the state hits the 90 per cent double dose rate, there would be no requirements or restrictions for travelling into Queensland. “I was told of just one story – three young people coming up to be with families in Queensland on Christmas Day,” she said.“They were all due to arrive last night on Christmas Eve, but we’re waiting for their PCR test.”“Now at least one of these young people were going to be joining a big family gathering today of 25 to 30 family members,” she said.

“Those family members had been protected from having a positive case gathering with them because of that PCR test and those young people doing the right thing and waiting for those results before they sought to travel.”
