Health Minister Yvette D’Ath has warned COVID vaccinations might be cancelled if Queensland does not receive more supply.
Queensland Health Minister Yvette D’Ath says the state could run out of Pfizer doses in eight days.Ms D’Ath said her director-general wrote to Lieutenant-General John Frewen on Tuesday to request an extra 152,100 Pfizer doses from the federal government, but it was knocked back.
Ms D’Ath suggested the Pfizer shortage might be the reason the “Prime Minister has come out and suggested that under-50s get AZ”.if they gave the AstraZeneca shot to any adult regardless of their age, despite previous advice that it was not recommended for younger people because of blood-clotting fears.
“At the moment, the advice is for people aged 40 to 59 to get Pfizer, and people 60 and over to get AstraZeneca,” she said.
