Voters in Townsville have turned out in droves to cast an early ballot, fuelled by frustrations over youth crime and a deep desire for change.

Queenslanders in three Labor-held Townsville seats are expected to vote for change.More than 9,000 of the 141,000 registered voters had cast their ballots in the first two days of early voting , citing crime and cost-of-living as key concerns."All I'm seeing everywhere is that the LNP is going to sort out crime so I'm hoping they do," Jahmara White said.Last year, a 14-year-old stole her car from her driveway while her young daughter was still inside, she said.

"I'm a hard worker and I've had my car stolen, they get off and I'm left with the bill, the laws are too easy for the kids to do it again," she said."I had a couple of attempts on my house and my parent's house, nothing is being done about it."Political expert Dr Maxine Newlands said the three Townsville seats were crucial to the next government.

Keen for reassurance that the laws wouldn't be changed, Townsville voters said Katter's Australian Party's pro-life stance had created confusion.
