Man explained why he became a follower of Rastafari and why he joined the Ethiopian Orthodox Church.
A Liverpool man who became a follower of Rastafari and now a member of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church explained his faith and beliefs.
“Growing up in a place where your parents came as migrants, and a racist society that was always rejecting us. It gave us a sense of pride. When crowned in 1930 Tafari Makonnen was given the title; Emperor Halie Selassie I, King of Kings, the Lion of Judah, Elect of God. Haile Selassie means Power of the Holy Trinity.
“In Liverpool, I joined the Ethiopian Orthodox Church in 2011, was baptised and given the name Wolda Selassie ”. “The Emperor and all the Kings of Ethiopia claim direct descent from the Queen of Sheba, known as Queen Makeda of Ethiopia and King Solomon of Israel. They bore a child, Menelik I who became the first King of Ethiopia.
“Halie Selassie I is the 225 descendant of Menelik I which goes back over 3,000 years making them the oldest monarchy in the world. The Emperor died in 1975, his descendants live on as the Crown Council, but live outside Ethiopia. After the churches split, the East and Oriental Churches kept the word Orthodox meaning the right way. The Romans kept the word Catholic, basically meaning universal, or inclusive.
