Tampa Bay Rays draw smallest crowds of season against Astros

A crowd of 9,916 fans watched the Houston Astros-Tampa Bay Rays game at Tropicana Field on Tuesday, April 25, 2023.ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Rays have the best record in baseball, including winning 14 of 15 at Tropicana Field, yet only five teams — Cincinnati, Kansas City, Pittsburgh, Miami and Oakland — average fewer fans per game at home.

The Rays are averaging 16,863 fans per game, and attendance has been even worse this week despite playing the defending champion Astros.Wednesday night's attendance of 14,168 . There are seven teams who average more fans than that per game, including the Astros who rank sixth in the league in attendance at 37,261 per game. The Astros have had just one game so far this season — a Monday night loss to the Tigers — that drew fewer than 30,000 fans.
