Port Adelaide renter Shay Leach has started heading into her CBD office for warmth as her apartment has become too expensive to heat properly.

Port Adelaide renter Shay Leach’s unit is so cold she’s considered buying a reverse cycle air conditioner in a property she doesn’t own.

It allows her to save money and be more productive, as she struggles to concentrate while feeling the cold at home. “We don’t have any kind of autonomy to make important adjustments that would make our heating more sustainable, whether that be double-glazing or an energy-efficient heater. But then the rising cost of living is making it even harder to save up and aspire to homeownership.”
