Authorities have called for help to find a whale that was seen tangled in ropes and buoys off the Gippsland coast in Victoria.

Ellen Dwyer from the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action said authorities had been scouring the coastline between Wilsons Promontory and Point Hicks, but the whale's location remained unknown."We were advised there was a sighting of a whale, approximately 18 to 20 kilometres off Loch Sport that had been tangled in some rope and buoys," Ms Dwyer said.
Disentanglement experts, including staff from the Victorian Fisheries Authority and Parks Victoria, have been on stand-by at Lakes Entrance to assist if required."If anyone finds the whale they can give us a call, and we'll reconvene and try find it again," Ms Dwyer said. "The helicopter didn't identify any buoys anywhere, which is a good sign because it means that the whale hasn't beached itself."
