Fylde residents' living nightmare as never-ending roadworks and hour-long tailbacks cause daily misery
Residents in Fylde and nearby Wyre have spoken of their daily misery after roadworks and temporary traffic lights have caused such severe delays that children have been over an hour late for school, and have had people contemplating calling in sick to work to avoid the stress.
Alix said: "I share my children with my ex-parent and we co-parent, I have to cross that roundabout, that's not a roundabout anymore, daily. What used to be a six-minute journey is now over an hour. She said police and ambulance vehicles had come into difficulty when attempting to reach a man who was involved in a motorbike accident on the Norcross roundabout. She added: "I don't know how they can be allowed to implement a new system that is creating so much mayhem, accidents and delays. It's absolutely shocking."
"God helps us if an ambulance needs to get through as it's total gridlock in every direction. The change in the roads and signals is never ever going to work. She said: "I have to drive him and pick him up every day as he can't cope on the school transport bus due to his needs. Normally, I drop my eldest son at St. Aidan's at about half past eight and then I get to my younger son's school, Red Marsh, at about nine.
"I have to set off to pick him up an extra 40 mins earlier as I never know how long it's going to take me to get there to pick him up and then most days I collect him at 3pm and it's usually between quarter to and half past four when I get home. The trip from my house to his school is only about 11 miles."
He said coming home at 5pm from work is "atrocious", with a journey that usually takes 25 minutes, being more like an hour and a half. Craig added: "There has never been such bad traffic in the past 10 years I have been over here. Some times during the day the traffic is backed all the way up to Hambleton shops. It's an absolute nightmare."
The motorist has tried three different routes to get to where she needs to be, with each one of the routes "backed up and jammed" which is "painful" for her as she needs to be at her destination for 8am.
