Opinion | The aftershock of the Juukan Gorge blasts is being felt in the US where indigenous Apaches are fighting a potential Rio and BHP giant copper project

It’s been more than a month since Rio Tinto’s freshly minted chief executive Jakob Stausholm hit the road to lead the Australian leg of the company’s reputational revival tour.

Shareholders too appeared to be disarmed, if not charmed, by his quiet, thoughtful demeanour and his desire to seek out shareholder concerns rather than deliver a scripted spiel.Advertisement While Stausholm and his new team are making all the right noises about turning over a cultural leaf, the larger base of shareholders will be expecting that financial returns will not be sacrificed in the process.

US military 'go woke' as Chinese commit serious incursion into Taiwan airspace | Sky News AustraliaUS military 'go woke' as Chinese commit serious incursion into Taiwan airspace | Sky News AustraliaSky News host James Morrow says the world has become a “more dangerous place” as the US military falls prey to identity politics under the Biden administration and China-Taiwan relations spiral.\n\nOn Friday, Chinese forces committed their largest ever incursion into Taiwanese airspace, and in the Middle East, Iran rebel militias are attacking Saudi oil fields and building up missile stockpiles.\n\nMr Morrow said the US military has been invaded by armies of “PC wokesters, human resources powerpoint jockeys and identity politics radicals” since the inauguration of President Biden.\n\n“Instead of being on alert to fight foreign enemies, the military is now being used to ferret out domestic foes – i.e. anyone to the right of the Biden administration,” he said.\n\nFor example, the Pentagon enforced a one-day stand-down of US military forces across the globe to deal with the problem of extremism in the ranks.\n\nThe Pentagon has also launched a social media campaign against Fox News's Tucker Carlson who recently slammed America's increasingly feminised and woke military.\n\n“How long until the US military goes down the road of the old Soviet Union, where political officers were always on hand to check everyone's thinking? Mr Morrow asked. \n\n'Honestly, at this rate, China won't need to defeat America on the battlefield if America under Biden keeps becoming more like China.”\n

We should have the lowest cost of electricity in the world – we did until recently - but we have basically undermined this through our domestic policies.\n\n“Basically, coal is the cheapest form of electricity we have and we can be again an economic superpower – but only if we embrace this.”\n
