But he ended up looking even more out of touch at the Leeds hustings when he claimed: ‘I’m the most northern chancellor that this party has had for something like 70 odd years.’ Mr Sunak, who went to boarding school at Winchester College in Hampshire, then boasted about facilitating a green port in Teeside and signing off ‘the largest investment in rail infrastructure across the North’.
Yes, he’s been MP for Richmond in Yorkshire since 2015, but that really doesn’t count for much, and he was ‘parachuted’ into William Hague’s old constituency.
