Rodgers was perfectly correct in what he said. There’s hardly a manager in football who doesn’t want more than he’s got at his disposal. And he went to some length at the weekend to trash any suggestion this may have been a coded message, like a man blinking his eyes throughout a hostage video. This is no mug we’re dealing with, after all. On the contrary, Rodgers is as smart a manager as they come, so he will have been acutely aware of the deficiencies which still required to be addressed in his own squad when the window shut down at the end of August.
Rather than blame it all on a trigger-happy match referee, Rodgers referenced a lack of experience when asked about those dismissals.
