'I’m keeping up the pressure to try and get them connected up as soon as possible'

Rossendale and Darwen MP Jake Berry has welcomed new figures showing that more than two thirds of homes and businesses across North West now have access to rapid and reliable internet.

He hailed the statistics as an example of the success of the government’s £5 billion Project Gigabit. They show that coverage of gigabit-capable broadband has increased from seven per cent to 70 per cent in three years, with more than 20 million households and businesses now able to tap into rapid and reliable internet.

In the last five months alone, one million premises have been connected to gigabit networks – a major achievement given the first million premises took more than eight years to connect. The rate at which gigabit-capable internet connections are installed has increased threefold.Conservative Party chairman Mr Berry MP said: “It’s fantastic news that we are making such progress on getting everyone connected but I know there is more to do.

“There are still spots across Rossendale including Swinnel Brook Park and Booth Crescent that have very limited broadband speeds and I’m keeping up the pressure to try and get them connected up as soon as possible.”
