Now his move to the New Zealand Warriors is officially off, Cronulla Sharks cult hero Toby Rudolf hopes Sunday's rivals will have had ample time to get over his backflip
Rudolf had signed a three-year deal to join the New Zealand Warriors from next year. However, he had a change of heart and wanted to stay in Sydney to care for his mother, Susan, who is legally blind, as well as his grandmother, Erika, who was diagnosed with esophageal cancer not long after he had agreed to the Auckland move.Rudolf has since signed a one-year contract extension with Cronulla, who will take on the Warriors on Sunday in what amounts to a finals qualifier.
"When I was 19 and playing for the Rabbitohs under-20s, I grew my hair out for an AC/DC concert," Rudolf said. "I wanted to cut it into a mullet, but I loved how long it was. "Then 'Madge' [former Souths coach Michael Maguire] told me to cut my hair. I did and ended up playing shit. I played shit for the rest of that season and the next.
Then there is the Lowes endorsements, which he gets paid for with a few posts on Instagram. "I'm not up for the big-money TV commercials yet. That would be outstanding ... 'Coronavirus and the NRL's biosecurity rules have also turned Rudolf's living arrangements upside down, forcing him to move out of the place he shared with South Sydney forward Liam Knight.
