Russian investigators recovered the black box after the crash, which Western officials strongly believe was no accident two months after Wagner’s attempted mutiny.

Russian investigators have recovered the black box flight recorder from Wagner chief Yevgeny Prigozhin’s plane, which crashed outside Moscow last week.

A portrait of Wagner chief Yevgeny Prigozhin left at a makeshift memorial near former PMC Wagner Centre in Saint Petersburg, Russia.Prigozhin – alongside other Wagner mercenary group leaders – is believed to have been on the plane that mysteriously fell out of the sky on Wednesday. No concrete evidence to prove their deaths has yet been presented.

Despite recovering both the recorders and the bodies, it may be a long time before the findings of the official investigation come out. The black boxes contain enormous amounts of flight data to analyse, as well as audio recordings of the cockpit.Russian authorities have cited the need to await DNA test results to confirm Prigozhin’s death, but Vladimir Putin has already expressed his condolences.

The Kremlin has denied allegations that it had any involvement with the mysterious plane crash that came exactly two months after Prigozhin’s short-lived mutiny.British military intelligence said on Friday there was not yet definitive proof that Prigozhin had been onboard but that it was “highly likely” he was dead.Kremlin involvement in the mercenary leader’s death would likely mean that the investigation would only yield pre-determined outcomes.

At that point we had a lot of money and we thought, how are we going to make Melbourne big – so we put up a big purse and said we’d have one of the biggest horse races in the world. “The turf club and jockey club back then were sort of vying for who’s going to be big in the sport in Melbourne – it was just a really exciting time.”
