South Australia has approved the purchase and use of rapid antigen tests for locals but interstate travellers will need to receive a negative PCR test result in the 72 hours before travelling to the state.

The tests can be used by residents who are asymptomatic but still want to screen themselves for COVID-19 ahead of Christmas gatherings with loved ones.

People looking to enter high-risk settings or crowded places may also want to purchase rapid antigen tests to ensure they are not spreading the virus. Anyone who receives a positive result is required to go for a PCR test from a government-authorised pathology provider and must isolate until they receive a negative result.

With higher rates of COVID-19 now in our community, Rapid Antigen Test will be available in SA for the general public to use at home from today. RAT are an effective screening tool for people with no symptoms. A positive RAT needs to be confirmed using a PCR test.
