Independent South Australian state MP Troy Bell confirms to the ABC he is facing 52 charges and that he will 'defend these allegations to the fullest extent'.

South Australian independent state MP Troy Bell has been charged with more than 50 offences that appear to relate to his use of the Country Members Accommodation Allowance.After an ICAC investigation, Mr Bell has been charged with 52 offencesMr Bell confirmed to the ABC on Tuesday night that he was facing 52 charges and that he would "defend these allegations to the fullest extent".

The Country Members Accommodation Allowance is a nightly payment made to regional MPs who need to be in the city overnight for work and whose usual place of residence is more than 75 kilometres from Adelaide. In response to questions from the ABC about what the charges related to, Mr Bell said he was aware that "similar allegations have been levelled against a number of other country MPs, some of whom have since admitted to incorrectly claiming travel allowances".

"My community remains in the grip of a major public health crisis and they are only three months away from an election.
