At the end of a year when school-leavers have been desperate to make it to Byron Bay or even further north across the reopened Queensland border, one Victorian student is celebrating the end of his studies in a novel way – sailing the Sydney to Hobart.

“Dad just said, ‘Let’s do the Sydney to Hobart’,” Zac said. “Instantly, I said ‘Yes’. It’s always been a dream of mine to do one, and it’s been in the works for a while.Brook Mitchell The Heyes will be joined by skipper Grant Wharington and son Oliver, 25, while Doug Sallis and his 25-year-old son, Jarrod, will be other father-son pairs sailing out of Sydney Harbour on Sunday.
