Cricket Australia contract, World Test Championship, Ashes series, Travis Head, Sri Lanka tour
Sam Konstas is poised for a $225,000 pay raise if he plays in the first Test against Sri Lanka later this month. A single Test appearance will propel him to a Cricket Australia central contract worth $346,641, and he'll receive back pay for the difference between that and his current minimum level state contract with New South Wales. Cricket Australia is expected to announce its contract list for the coming year in March.
Given his impressive debut in Melbourne and Sydney against India, Konstas is likely to be included, especially with the World Test Championship Final, a Test tour of the West Indies, and a home Ashes series on the horizon. Being on the contract list would also make the 19-year-old, who still lives at home with his parents in Sydney, eligible for a six-figure bonus from Cricket Australia's marketing pool, considering his near-instant status as a household name. However, Konstas' payday might be delayed if Australia's selection policy for the subcontinent excludes him from the team. Travis Head, who topped the run charts this Test summer with 448 runs at 56, including centuries in Adelaide and Brisbane, could return to the top order in Sri Lanka, as he did in India in 2023. Head scored 223 runs at 55.75 in five innings when he opened the batting in India, after David Warner was ruled out due to injury. His attacking approach proved effective against the seamers and the harder ball, rather than facing the turning ball in the middle order
