AFL legend Sam Newman has told Sky News he was threatened with being arrested for simply trying to “point out the draconian measures” being inflicted on Victorians for no good reason.

In a “tongue in cheek aside”, Mr Newman urged Victorians to "take the city/state back” and proposed 250,000 people gather in the CBD. He later said on his podcast ‘You Cannot Be Serious,’ "I'm not advocating a rally as such. I just said wouldn't it be great that 250,000 people march in the city.

That is hyperbole, that is designed to get the attention of the government”. Mr Newman said the police approached him on Wednesday and said if he was thinking of hosting a rally or even attending one then “I would be put in jail, I’d be arrested”. “The city is rusting, it is rusting and it is falling into disrepair.” Image: News Corp Australia
