Before and after satellite images of Queensland’s Scenic Rim region have laid bare the devastation record-breaking rainfall has caused in the region.of the northern Scenic Rim region from the European Space Agency’s Sentinel satellites that show in shocking clarity how severe flooding became around Warrill Creek between Harrisville and Radford in late February.
The maps also use different spectral bands that the Sentinel satellites capture to show the moisture stress of the region, and vegetation health, both before and after the flooding.Soar mapping content coordinator Diana Rodzi said the moisture stress map was normally used to detect moisture levels in vegetation but was a good example of how much water flowed into the region.
“This excess in water can be seen as ‘over-irrigation’. In the image after the flood occurred, the deeper blue areas show an excess of water, which indicates where there are floodwaters.”
