At least 66m-year-old fossil discovered in southern China reveals posture previously unseen in dinosaurs

“It is one of the best dinosaur embryos ever found in history,” Fion Waisum Ma, a University of Birmingham researcher who co-authored a paper in the journal iScience, told AFP.

Embryos that fail to tuck have a higher chance of death from an unsuccessful hatching. “This indicates that such behaviour in modern birds first evolved and originated among their dinosaur ancestors,” said Ma. Baby Yingliang measures about 27cm long from head to tail and lies inside a 17cm-long egg at the Yingliang Stone Natural History Museum.
