Former prime minister Scott Morrison had the final say on millions of dollars in grants, according to the findings of a federal review launched in June.

Officials in the department of Industry, Science and Resources found the 17 grants were worth $828 million across the food, medicine and defence manufacturing sectors.

Under the guidelines of the scheme, Mr Morrison made the final decision over who would be awarded the grants. Industry Minister Ed Husic has questioned why the grant announcements were made so close to the federal election.
