A National Parks and Wildlife Service marine mammal expert says the farmers who returned the seal to the sea did the right thing.
The seal, estimated to be about six months old, was not in good condition when it was discovered on ThursdayThe National Parks and Wildlife Service says the farmers were the ideal people to handle the situation
National Parks marine coordinator Dirk Holman said the long-nosed fur seal, which was found about three kilometres from the ocean on the Eyre Peninsula, would most likely have perished had it not been discovered."With invasive species like cats and foxes around it could have quite easily have been taken."Mr Holman said if members of the public found a marine mammal in distress they should contact National Parks, but in this case the farmers acted appropriately.
