Canberra is one step closer to having seaplanes landing on Lake Burley Griffin after the body that overseas the lake threw its support behind the plan, despite overwhelming pushback against the proposal.

The National Capital Authority says concerns surrounding the use of seaplanes on Lake Burley Griffin can be appropriately managed.Two operators — Sydney Seaplanes and South Coast Seaplanes — have shown interest in using the west basin of Lake Burley Griffin, near the National Museum of Australia, for the take-off and landing of their seaplanes.
The authority also said a poll taken by a Canberra-based online news outlet which posed the question to its readers: "Should we allow seaplanes to land on Lake Burley Griffin?", showed there was community support for the idea. "Feedback from the community has provided a fulsome understanding of the range of issues that need to be addressed as this work progresses.
At the time, Sydney Seaplanes director Aaron Shaw said that planes would only spend 5-10 minutes on the lake, and that the impact on lake users would be "quite minimal".
