Kimberly Cheatle told a congressional committee hearing that she takes full responsibility for the missteps of the Secret Service in the lead-up to the attempt on Donald Trump's life.

The director of the United States Secret Service says the assassination attempt on Donald Trump was the "most significant operational failure" in decades.

Ms Cheatle said on Monday, local time, that she took full responsibility for the agency's missteps related to the attack at Trump's Pennsylvania rally earlier this month. She said the Secret Service would never have taken Trump onto the stage if it had known there was an "actual threat". But while Crooks had been reported as suspicious, he wasn't identified as a threat until seconds before the shooting, she said.

Secret Service director Kim Cheatle once said she 'thrives on chaos'. An assassination attempt puts that claim to the test Before the shooting, local law enforcement had noticed Crooks pacing around the edges of the rally, peering into the lens of his rangefinder toward the rooftops behind the stage where the president later stood, officials have told The Associated Press.Witnesses later saw him climbing up the side of a squat manufacturing building that was within 135 meters of the stage.

Investigators who searched his phone found photos of Trump, Biden and other senior government officials, and also found that he had looked up the dates for the Democratic National Conventional as well as Trump's appearances.Would-be assassin looked up photos of Trump, Biden and a British royal, FBI tells senatorsWorld Politics
