Shadow attorney-general Alister Henskens accused Mark Speakman of being untruthful in comments to a newspaper, according to text messages read out by Ray Hadley
The NSW Liberals’ internal civil war over its council nominations debacle has deepened after radio broadcaster Ray Hadley made sensational public claims that senior frontbencher Alister Henskens had labelled under-pressure Opposition leader Mark Speakman a liar.
On his program on Thursday morning, Hadley read out the texts between himself and Henskens, which began with the Wahroonga MP calling division president Don Harwin “the biggest fraud of all time”.Daily Telegraph The radio host claimed two senior conservative Liberal MPs — Henskens and Lane Cove MP Anthony Roberts — had been undermining Speakman by leaking against him in private text messages.he had sought to undermine Speakman’s leadership by leaking to Hadley. If that proposition meant “attacking him personally as leader – no, I haven’t,” Henskens said.
The party’s failure to lodge nomination forms for 140 local government candidates sparked an assault on Harwin and Speakman, with conservatives accusing the pair of being culpable in the historic bungle.
