The person in charge of Victoria's COVID-19 health response has told an inquiry into the state's bungled quarantine system that she had not done any planning for the use of hotels on a mass scale. 9News
Despite text messages sent between Department of Jobs staff earlier this year, and presented to the inquiry today, that appeared to warn of possible operational concerns, Mr Phemister said he thought the security his team hired would work under the guise of the DHHS.Internal emails shown to the inquiry explicitly say the 'control agency', the DHHS, was in charge of the quarantine system's operation.
Premier Daniel Andrews is expected to front the inquiry on Friday, after today acknowledging that irreparable mistakes were made in the hotel quarantine system. The counsel assisting the inquiry said the investigation has come after repeated calls from Premier Daniel Andrews that it finds answers into operational failures.
"Mistakes have been made in this program, they are not acceptable to me. I don't think anyone … is in any doubt about my views on that matter. These mistakes are unacceptable," he said at today's media briefing.IN PICTURES: Anti-lockdown protests take place in MelbourneContinue reading
