There's a push for more transparency over the employment arrangements of a former University of Tasmania vice-chancellor, with documents indicating accommodation arrangements were made.

The University of Tasmania has investigated the appointment of a former senior executive, who was an associate of former vice-chancellor Peter Rathjen's before winning a position aimed at building the institution's international profile — despite earlier sitting on the selection panel for the job.

A University of Tasmania spokesman confirmed the institution has since undertaken an investigation into the appointment. The university refused to release the documents in full on the basis that it would be likely to expose the institution to a competitive disadvantage. The ABC first requested information about the recruitment process to appoint Professor Skidmore in May, but the University has twice blocked the release of key details.

"We conducted an internal review which has found that [Professor Skidmore's appointment] met the processes and standards of the time," it said.
