Channel Seven has flown some of its top stars to its Mount Coot Tha headquarters in Brisbane in the wake of Queensland news director Michael Coombes’ shock exit and the network’s tumbling ratings, according to sources.
In an email sent to staff on Friday evening, Coombes said he will not renew his contract set to end on Oct 31.
Spotlight presenter Michael Usher and reporter Sarah Greenhalgh were brought into the Mount Coot Tha newsroom in recent weeks, according to The Australian's Media Diary on Sunday. Coombes in the email to staff said he will take leave until the end of his contract as he addressed speculation about his departure.
A trove of Seven veterans have exited the network as it slashes headcounts amid an industry-wide downturn in advertising revenue and a steep decline in linear free-to-air TV audiences.
