This was the BBL, a different game played by different players. Ben Laughlin and Chris Lynn dominated, Brad Hogg and George Bailey charmed. It was what it was, and for a long time, that was plenty enough for fans and broadcasters. But no more, says Seven. It resuscitated Shane Warne, got mileage out of Hogg, miked up and milked out Kevin Pietersen, made a virtue of Chris Gayle’s insouciance and gave Brendon McCullum a great big hug, and it didn’t matter that most of them could not get out their own way in the outfield.It introduced Rashid Khan and Luke Wright and Kieron Pollard and Yasir Arafat and Andre Russell and made lounge room stars out of them.
Cricket Australia says they’re making arrangements to play a full program this summer, pandemic and all, and so expect full fare. Seven, unable to make quantity the issue, have turned instead to quality.
