At least two people have been rushed to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a critical condition with extensive burns.

Multiple people have been rushed to hospital, two with significant burns, after a fire at a unit block in inner Brisbane.

Emergency services, including 12 firefighter crews, were called to the fire on Bowen Terrace in New Farm about 9.15am, after residents in the area reported hearing an explosion.Queensland Ambulance Service A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said two people had been rushed to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a critical condition with extensive burns.

Another three people suffered smoke inhalation and were also assessed by paramedics but were in stable conditions. One was taken to hospital, while two declined transport. When firefighters arrived, smoke could be seen from the rear of the apartment complex, prompting crews to search the ground floor and the second floor to determine where the blaze had started.Firefighters later identified the room the fire had been spreading from, and the fire was extinguished by 9.45am.Police urged motorists and residents nearby to avoid the area if possible.
