Until last season, it had been four years since a Giants pitcher received a Cy Young vote — a minor dry spell for some clubs but a California-sized drought for a team with a recent run of arms the likes of Lincecum, Cain and Bumgarner .
Kevin Gausman’s sixth-place finish last season made him the first Giants pitcher since Bumgarner and Johnny Cueto in 2016 to garner a vote. It also earned him aAs the season nears its end and résumés are polished, Gausman’s rotation replacement — Carlos Rodón — is making a strong case to fill his spot on Cy Young ballots, too.“I think you could make a case that he’s been every bit as dominant as anybody else around the league,” Kapler said.
“I’m a little surprised myself that I still have that fastball,” Rodón said. “… As far as hitting a career high in innings, I guess that’s a testament to durability, finally, for once. That’s good. … I just want to make the rest of the starts. That’s all I want to do.”Miami’s Sandy Alcantara is the runaway favorite in betting markets and the general discourse around the league.
