Shadow Trade and Tourism Minister Kevin Hogan has expressed concerns about the appointments to the new monetary policy committee that sets interest rates, saying that he personally does not trust Albanese or Jim Chalmers to appoint the right people.

“I have grave concerns and questions about who they will appoint to that and who they will approve to be put on that because it can’t just be all ex-union hacks or affiliates,” he told Sky News Australia.

“That would potentially compromise the Reserve Bank’s independence, and it can’t be just people like that.”
